Using a wide range of tenses with a formal, an informal, and even a colloquial language, you will start to analyse and discuss the world around you, i.e art, music, books, science, landscapes and historical places, and cultural differences, with a glimpse on life in a few French speaking countries.
The main topics are designed for those of you who have already studied the language for at least 4-5 years or have attended the French Developing Fluency B, or else have spent a reasonable time in the country and wish to learn more and practise their skills in a relaxed environment. The group as a whole will be able to discuss which topics are of interest to them. You will practise all four skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) with an emphasis on speaking and listening in class.

The topics suggested include to:

- Exchange explanations, knowledge and opinions on Art exhibitions, concerts, cultural events – magazine articles-video extracts

- Study and share facts and views on writers, artists, musicians, scientists, their life and their careers

- Describe and discuss social changes in society

- Contribute to films and books reviews

- Watch a few film extracts to study their script, purpose and language style

- Discover current developments in science, medicine, space exploration, climate and biodiversity

- Read about future projects in medicine, in architecture and other areas and present them

Please note due to half term there will be no session on 05/05/2026 and 26/05/2026.

What next?
French Mastering Fluency leading to a level C2 in the CEFR, Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Entry criteria
There are no formal entry requirements, however, this is a course for those who have already studied the language at a language school for four to five years, or followed the French Developing Fluency B, or a course for 250 hours, or else have spent some time in the country on holiday or business trips. This is a course for those who will already be able to talk fairly confidently in the present, past, future and conditional tenses. You may understand references to the subjunctive mood although you may not be confident in using it. The standard is based on those have some ability at Level B2 but want to consolidate it to reach a level C1 in terms of the Common European Framework.

You may like to buy a small dictionary. Your tutor will be able to advise you at the first session.

As part of your course we may organise trips to assist you with your learning. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate.

Learning & method assessment
Learning activities will include individual, pair, small group and whole class work. You will listen to the spoken word through conversation activities, CDs and DVDs, practise speaking, play games, read more complex texts and write accounts. This is not an accredited course so there will be no formal examination. However, your tutor will ask you to complete informal assessment exercises and will give you feedback.

As this is a non-accredited course, there is no formal qualification. To track your progress and achievement you will be required to complete a short document.
