You will have been studying now long enough to have enough language to get by, with sufficient vocabulary to express yourself on topics such as family, hobbies and interests, work, travel, and current events. You will express opinions, comparisons, uncertainty and doubts that take place in the past, the present, the future.
You are now using reasonably accurately a repertoire of frequently used "routines" and patterns associated with more predictable situations. As a result, you will keep going comprehensibly, even though pausing for grammatical and lexical planning and repair, especially in longer stretches of free production. You will also be able to initiate and maintain face-to-face or telephone conversations, and email exchanges, on a wide range of topics. You will be able to use IT language in French, to report a theft and contest a fine both verbally and in writing, to read, write and express your thoughts in a more sophisticated manner whilst developing your understanding of more native speakers from different parts of France and its former colonies and to discover some of these countries, for instance in North Africa, Morocco.

Book recommended: Access French 2 published by Routledge- Author: Bernard Grosz
