The course focuses on developing skills for life and introducing learners to skills for work and covers 5 skills areas in Digital Skills.

It is estimated that one in five adults lack basic digital skills. This qualification aims to enable learners to develop the digital skills they need for life, work, or further study. At Entry level 3, the focus is on developing digital skills for life and introducing learners to digital skills for work. At Level 1 the focus is primarily on digital skills for work with a secondary focus on digital skills for life.

The content of the qualifications is based on the National Standards for Essential Digital Skills April 2019. This qualification will enable learners to develop the digital skills they need for life, work, or further study as set out in the National standards for essential digital skills.

The course focuses on developing skills for life and introducing learners to skills for work and covers 5 skills areas:1. Using devices and handling information2. Creating and editing3. Communicating4. Transacting5. Being safe and responsible online

The course is assessed by an externally set, online exam.

Please note that learners will be required to attend an assessment session prior to the start date of the course. In order to avoid disappointment, it is advisable to enrol at least 2½ weeks prior to the course starting. We will confirm course information two weeks prior to the start date.

Please note there will be no classes on: 20/12/2024, 27/12/2024, 03/01/2025, 21/02/2025, 11/04/2025, 18/04/2025.

There are vending machines available where hot/cold drinks and snacks can be purchased. There are watercoolers on site making it easy to refill your water bottle.There is no parking on the campus during the day. Please use Marriotts Walk or Woodford Way Car Parks which are a few minutes’ walk away. Please report to Reception on arrival. A photo-id will be issued, for you to wear when you attend classes.

Entry criteria
You will be invited to a short interview with the course leader. You will also be required to undertake an English Skills assessment as well as an initial assessment of your current digital skills to ensure you are applying to the correct level.

This course is free to those who meet the eligibility criteria.

As part of your course we may organise trips to assist you with your learning. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate.

Qualifications received
Entry Level 3 in Essential Digital Skills or Level 1 in Essential Digital Skills, depending on your initial assessment.
Learning & method assessment
Learners are expected to attend at least 95% of the teaching sessions. You will take part in theory sessions as well as hands-on, practical computer sessions.

Learners are assessed informally throughout the course to track progress towards exam readiness. Learners will take an externally set, online exam at the end of the course.
