The Equine Groom Apprenticeship with a Non-Riding pathway is designed to provide apprentices with the essential skills and knowledge required to care for horses and assist in the daily operations of an equestrian establishment, without the focus on riding.
This apprenticeship is ideal for individuals interested in working with horses in non-riding roles, such as grooming, stable management, and horse care.
What next?
Upon successful completion of the Equine Groom Apprenticeship (Non-Riding Pathway), apprentices can progress to higher-level qualifications such as the Level 3 Senior Groom Apprenticeship or pursue careers as:
Yard Managers
Equine Welfare Officers
Stud Grooms
Equine Rehabilitation Technicians
Entry criteria
Entry requirements for this apprenticeship include:
Interest in working with horses and equestrian activities
Basic understanding of horse care and handling
Willingness to work outdoors and in a physically demanding environment
Fee information
Free to apprentices. This apprenticeship has a £5,000 funding band. Depending on age some small companies will need to contribute £250 toward the funding; large companies could pay through the apprenticeship levy if they have funds available.

Learning & method assessment
This is an apprenticeship where you will be employed with an Equine employer and will attend our Common Leys campus one day per week on day release.

Skills and attributes required for a role involving horse care and stable management:Animal Care and Welfare:Understanding equine behavior, needs, and welfare requirements.Providing daily care, including feeding, grooming, and exercising horses.Knowledge of first aid and basic veterinary care for horses.

Practical Skills:Handling and working with horses safely and confidently.Proficiency in using grooming tools and maintaining stable facilities.

Physical Fitness and Stamina:Physical strength and endurance for tasks like lifting and manual labor.Ability to work in all weather conditions.

Safety and Compliance:Adherence to health and safety regulations and biosecurity measures.

Teamwork and Communication:Collaborating with colleagues and communicating effectively with horse owners.
