Watercolour is a beautiful and yet illusive medium. This course will help you develop your technique and explore new ways of working.
We will continue developing core watercolour techniques, including wet‑into‑wet, dry brushing and layered washes. Tuition will also cover drawing skills, colour mixing, palette craft, and ways to create space and atmosphere in landscapes. You will work with both structured drawing methods and loose, expressive painting, with a focus on tonal balance. Still‑life work will include accurate colour matching and developing your palette skills.Subjects include:

* Measuring and construction drawing* Atmospheric landscapes* Boats in harbour* Drapery study* Still life with drapery* Flower painting: close observation* Flower painting: loose interpretation

You will receive tutor demonstrations, one‑to‑one guidance, and supportive group learning.

Please do not buy materials until the course is confirmed.

### Bring to the first session:

* A4 watercolour pad, 140lb/300gsm (Langton Rough recommended)* Paints: Winsor & Newton Cotman or Daler Rowney Aquafine* Tubes preferred* Essential colours: Cadmium Red, Cadmium Yellow, Ultramarine Blue, Viridian (or Phthalo, not both)* Useful: Permanent Rose, Burnt Sienna, Yellow Ochre* Brushes: sable, nylon, or synthetic sable; one large and one small (e.g., No.10 round and No.2 round). Large hake if you work big* White plate/palette* Jam jar for water* Kitchen paper* HB pencil and sharpener* Eraser

Parking is available on site (free for 2 hours—please check on arrival). There is a nearby bus stop. Please bring your own refreshments if needed.

Please note - you should be 19 years old or over at 31st August 2026 prior to starting the course.

This course/workshop includes a material fee that provides essential resources and hands-on demonstrations, empowering you to achieve your learning goals and master new skills with confidence.

As part of your course we may organise trips to assist you with your learning. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate.
