This course will help you develop your portfolio of pictures through personal projects. Weekly sessions will include group discussion and critique of your work, as well as time to develop and modify your images using Photoshop, supported by the tutor. You will be working towards preparing a set of prints that could be used in an exhibition and/or self-publishing a photo book. The work of selected famous photographers is also covered.
Taking a digital image is often only a part of the process of making a picture, so this course will support you through finding your subject and finalising your vision in Photoshop with 1:1 tutor support. Some previous Photoshop and RAW processing experience is helpful as the course is aimed at improvers with this software rather than beginners.

Each week we will review and comment on composition and technique of pictures submitted by participants, to help develop your personal sense of picture design.

Please note there are no classes during half term.

What next?
After completing this course you will understand how to make pictures that fulfil the potential of the RAW file and your vision of the finished image. You will be working on favourite subjects and developing a portfolio of images. Beyond this Abingdon & Witney College offer a range of additional courses to consolidate and expand your photography skills.
Entry criteria
This is an ideal follow for those who have completed ‘How the camera works’ and ‘How to See & Take Better Pictures’ or are already able to operate their cameras fully and are familiar with the Exposure Triangle, semi-automatic settings, depth of field, as well as composition and picture design.

Please note - you should be 19 years old or over at 31st August 2026 prior to starting the course.
