On the NCFE Level 2 Principles of Dementia Care course you will develop comprehensive knowledge and understanding of dementia care, preparing you to work effectively with individuals affected by dementia, addressing various aspects of care, pain management, the impact of dementia on end-of-life care, and the role of care workers in times of loss and grief.
The curriculum explores essential aspects of dementia care taking a person-centred approach, including how to provide care to individuals at the end of their lives, manage pain and discomfort, and address the unique challenges posed by dementia. You will also gain insights into the loss and grief process. As well as equipping you to offer specialized care, this course also supports career development within the healthcare sector.
Course units
Unit 1: Dementia awareness
Unit 2: The person centred approach to the care and support of individuals with dementia
Unit 3: Understand equality, diversity and inclusion in dementia care
Unit 4: Understand the administration of medication to individuals with dementia using a person centred approach
Unit 5: Understand the factors that can influence communication and interaction with individuals who have dementia
Unit 6: Understand behaviour in the context of dementia
Unit 7: Understand the benefits of engaging in activities in social care.
What next?
Learners who achieve this qualification could progress to:
• Level 3 Certificates in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care
• Level 3 Diplomas in Health and Social Care (Adults) for England.
Entry criteria
Learners must be aged 19 or above and have not previously completed a similar qualification to qualify for funding. Some courses may have additional specific prerequisites. Please see fee information for funding requirements, or discuss upon enquiry.

These courses are government funded. To be able to study for free you must meet the following criteria:- You must currently live in England- You must have been a resident in the UK/EU for 3+ years for purposes other than study- You must be over the age of 19- You must not be an apprentice- You must not be currently studying another funded course.

As part of your course we may organise trips to assist you with your learning. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate.
