This course offers you an introduction to music, games design, art, and media and will help you create a portfolio of work that will help you progress to the next level, Music (Rock School) Level 2. You will explore your creative ideas through a range of different processes, such as drawing, painting, digital art, graphic design, photography, animation, and model-making.

This fun and lively programme encourages you to develop the personal skills needed to gain confidence in your work and ability.

You will learn about the creative process and problem-solving through projects that introduce you to exciting musicians, designers, artists, materials, and techniques. You will learn new creative and technical skills as well as how to work to a brief and reflect on your progress.

Alongside your Diploma, as part of your Futures Study Programme you will:

Develop your maths and English skills at the right level for you.

Complete 5 days of work experience to help you grow your employability skills.

Experience fun enrichment opportunities, including workshops, trips and visits.

Develop your personal skills and attributes with guidance and support.

Unit 1 - Introduction to materials, processes and skills in art, design and media

Unit 2 - Introduction to contextual research in art, design and media

Unit 3 - Introduction to communication skills in art, design and media

Unit 4 - Solving 2D creative problems

Unit 5 - Solving 3D creative projects

Unit 6 - Solving time-based creative problems

Unit 7 - Art, design and media project

What next?

The course is designed so that you can move on to a Level 2 course, a traineeship, or directly into employment.

Entry criteria

English & Maths GCSE at Grade 2, or Level 1 Functional Skills in both subjects.

Materials - Kit: £30, Studio materials: £20, Colour print credits: £10 (Total £60 payable at enrolment. You may be eligible for a bursary for up to 75% of this amount)

Day trips - approx. £20 (paid separately on request)

UAL Level 1 Diploma in Art, Design & Media.

Learning & method assessment

You will be provided with one-to-one feedback and set targets at the end of each project. This course is 100% coursework, internally assessed and externally moderated. You must pass units 1 - 6 before putting your learning into practice in the final project, unit 7. The overall grade for this qualification comes from the final unit, at Pass, Merit or Distinction.

GCSE retakes or Functional Skills qualifications in maths and English are assessed through external examinations.
