Create a stunning seasonal hanging basket and learn the skills needed to keep it looking beautiful throughout the growing season. Discover essential techniques including plant selection, basket design, planting methods and ongoing care.
This practical, hands-on workshop is ideal for beginners and gardening enthusiasts who want to learn how to design and create attractive hanging baskets for their home or garden. You'll explore how to choose the right plants for different locations, combine colours and textures for maximum impact, and plant up a basket that provides long-lasting displays. Through guided instruction and practical activities, you'll gain confidence in selecting suitable composts, arranging plants effectively, and maintaining healthy growth. Alongside developing practical skills, you'll learn about watering, feeding and deadheading techniques, as well as how to keep your hanging baskets looking their best throughout the season. You'll also gain an understanding of the environmental factors that influence plant performance and how to troubleshoot common problems. By the end of the workshop, you'll have the knowledge and confidence to create and maintain your own vibrant hanging baskets, bringing colour and interest to your outdoor spaces.

Please note that this workshop is designed for personal interest and enjoyment. No prior experience is required, and all materials and equipment needed for the practical activities will be provided.

Please bring your own gardening gloves and a drink of water if needed. If you have your own preferred gardening tools, such as secateurs, feel free to bring them along. However, all essential equipment will be provided. We look forward to welcoming you to the workshop and enjoying some hands-on gardening together!

Please note that this is not an RHS qualification course, nor is it affiliated with any of the horticulture programmes delivered at our Common Leys campus. The course is specifically designed for gardening enthusiasts seeking to develop their knowledge and practical skills for personal interest, rather than as a formal professional qualification.
