Explore the art of poetry in this beginner-friendly course. Develop your voice, experiment with different forms and techniques, and start creating your own collection in a supportive online space.
This course is designed to help you build confidence in writing poetry, experiment with different styles, and develop a collection of your own work. Whether you're new to poetry or looking to refine your skills, you’ll find inspiration and support in every session.

• Using Writing Prompts – Spark inspiration and generate ideas. • Exploring Poetic Forms – Learn about free verse, sonnets, haiku, and more. • Imagery & Descriptive Language – Create vivid, sensory poetry. • Rhythm & Sound – Experiment with meter, rhyme, and repetition. • Writing from Personal Experience – Transform thoughts and emotions into poetry. • Theme & Narrative in Poetry – Develop coherence across a collection. • Editing & Refining Poems – Strengthen your work through revision. • Building a Poetry Collection – Organize and prepare your poems for sharing.

This course is provided as part of the Courses for Carers programme that has been developed in partnership with Action for Carers. It is specifically for unpaid carers who are looking after someone who has a long-term illness, special need, or impairment.
Fee information
As part of your course we may organise trips to assist you with your learning. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate.
