This introductory four-week course is designed for carers looking for flexible jobs. Covering essential employability skills, the course will guide participants through identifying their strengths, crafting effective job applications, and preparing for interviews. It also explores modern job-search strategies, digital skills, and alternative work options such as remote and work-from-home roles that can fit around your caring commitments, as well as small independent ventures.
Week 1: Identifying Your Skills & Job ApplicationsLearn how to recognise and articulate your hard and soft skills including transferable skills. Gain practical guidance on writing a compelling CV, personal statement, and cover letter to showcase your strengths effectively.Week 2: Job Searching & Digital SkillsDiscover job-search techniques, including online platforms and networking strategies. Improve your digital skills, including navigating job websites, using professional social media, and understanding remote work opportunities.Week 3: Interview SkillsDevelop confidence for job interviews by learning how to answer common questions, present yourself professionally, and use effective communication techniques. Gain insights into virtual interviews and employer expectations.Week 4: Exploring Small Independent VenturesLearn about the growing world of side hustles as an alternative or supplementary income stream. Explore different opportunities and discover how to turn a passion into a profitable venture.

The course will be held online using Teams.It is advisable to enrol 2 1/2 weeks prior to course starting.We will confirm course information two weeks prior to start date.

What next?
After the course, participants can access further workshops that delve deeper into key topics. Bespoke courses will also be available to provide tailored support for individual job journeys.
Entry criteria
This course is provided as part of A Carer's Journey programme that has been developed in partnership with Action for Carers. It is specifically for unpaid carers who are looking after someone who has a long-term illness, special need or impairment.
Courses can fill fast, so please enrol early to avoid disappointment. Decisions on whether a course is to run are made two weeks prior to the start date - an email will be sent to you should there be changes to your course or if it is cancelled. Please check your inbox leading up to your course, including the junk folders. For anyone without an email account, our Admissions team will phone you instead.
Fee information
As part of your course we may organise trips to assist you with your learning. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate.
