Build on your seasonal gardening knowledge with this hands-on course. Explore key tasks for Autumn, Spring, and Summer, from planting to maintenance, and create a year-round plan for a thriving garden or allotment.
Plan, maintain, and enjoy a productive garden or allotment all year round, from planting and maintenance to harvesting, while learning essential skills for sustainable and successful gardening.

Throughout the course, you will explore:• Planning and maintaining a productive allotment throughout the year• Improving soil health, composting, and boosting fertility• Selecting crops for continuous harvest and seasonal variety• Making the most of available space through succession planting and crop rotation• Effective watering, pest management, and natural disease prevention• Managing weeds and enhancing biodiversity on your plot• Practical demonstrations of core allotment techniques• Developing a personalised allotment plan to ensure ongoing success

By the end of the course, you’ll have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to create a thriving, sustainable allotment or garden that flourishes across all seasons.

Please note there are no classes during half term.

Please note that this is not an RHS qualification course, nor is it affiliated with any of the horticulture programmes delivered at our Common Leys campus. The course is specifically designed for gardening enthusiasts seeking to develop their knowledge and practical skills for personal interest, rather than as a formal professional qualification.
What next?
Build on your skills with specialist workshops in tool sharpening, composting, or garden design. You could also progress to a horticulture qualification available through the college to deepen your knowledge.
Entry criteria
Suitable for learners who have completed the Gardening Through the Seasons course or have some prior gardening experience. Ideal for those looking to deepen their knowledge and refine their skills.

Please note - you should be 19 years old or over at 31st August 2026 prior to starting the course.

Fee information
As part of your course we may organise trips to assist you with your learning. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate.
