Continue to understand and make yourself understood in a range of increasingly unpredictable everyday situations. The focus of this course will be mainly on speaking and listening. The course will include writing short paragraphs in Pinyin, developing some basic skills in reading and writing Chinese characters. Although this is a continuation course from Beginners, but it is open for all who consider themselves competent at this level.
The main topics are designed for those who wish to converse a little more in the language when visiting the country. By the end of this course you will be able to:

Talk about best season for travellingTalk about your daily routine Talk about your hobby and when did you started itTalk about what is good or bad for your health. Shopping and plan a birthday partyYou will learn about 100 new vocabularies.

If you are to gain maximum benefit and enjoyment from your language class, it will be useful to spend some time working between sessions. There will usually be a small amount of homework set each week . The course will equip students with some knowledge on radicals for better understanding of the Chinese characters, with grammar structures for more fluent conversation and for writing simple texts on learned topics. We will also introduce some culture/traditions alongside the Chinese festivals, and some common sayings and taboos.

Entry criteria
Although this is a continuation course from Intermediate, but it is open for all who consider themselves competent at this level.If you have had 1 year experience in the subject, you should be able to join the class to continue your learning.

Please note - you should be 19 years old or over at 31st August 2026 prior to starting the course.

Fee information
A text book is used to accompany the course but it is optional to buy this (average cost £20 - £25). The text book will support your learning for at least 1 year. You may also like to buy a small dictionary. Your tutor will be able to advise you at the first session.

As part of your course we may organise trips to assist you with your learning. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate.
