Cheney SchoolThe focus will remain on practical spoken communication, including ordering food and drinks, shopping and bargaining, asking for and following directions, booking accommodation, and describing daily routines and hobbies. You will also develop your ability to understand and use Pinyin and the four tones with greater confidence.
Although writing is not the main focus at this level, you will be introduced to basic Chinese character writing, including common strokes, stroke order and radicals to help you start recognising and understanding 10–20 characters. Grammatical concepts will be introduced gradually to support your ability to construct simple sentences, but kept light to avoid overwhelm.
In addition to language skills, the course explores cultural traditions, common sayings, taboos and festivals, helping you engage more fully with the context in which Mandarin is spoken.
This course is ideal for anyone ready to take their next steps in Mandarin and continue their learning journey in a friendly and structured setting.
