Start your journey into the Chinese language with this beginner-friendly course, perfect for those with little or no prior knowledge. It's also ideal for “rusty” learners who’ve had some basic exposure and would benefit from revision and practice.
This is a course with fun in mind. The main aim is to help you to begin to 'get by' in the language. The emphasis of the course will be on your speaking (mainly Pinyin-based) and listening, as well as some relevant cultural information. It is about trying a new language and learning about certain related aspects of a new culture.

The topics mainly are: - Basic Language knowledge: Pronunciation rules - Greeting: hello, thank you, goodbye. - Self-introduction: by name, nationality, and job. - Immediate family members

If you are to gain maximum benefit and enjoyment from your language learning, it will be useful to spend some time working between sessions. There will usually be a small amount of homework set each week.

The course will equip you with some knowledge of the Chinese characters. We will also introduce some culture/traditions alongside the Chinese festivals.

"Facilities at Abingdon Campus:- Vending machines and Costa Coffee shop (open until 7pm on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday term time only).- Watercoolers available, making it easy to refill your water bottle.- Free parking. Please note due to half term there will be no session on 27/10/2025."
