Learn the core drawing techniques that support children’s book illustration in this beginner-friendly course. Explore shapes, forms, textures, and composition while developing the visual language needed to turn ideas into engaging story illustrations.
This beginner-friendly course focuses on developing core drawing skills essential for illustration. We will explore composition, perspective, proportion, shading techniques and colour, to build confidence in observation, capturing tones and mark-making. Students will also develop softer skills such as patience, problem-solving, and creative thinking. By the end of the term, learners will create sketches and preliminary illustrations suitable for story concepts.

Please note there will be no classes during half term.

Entry criteria
No prior experience required. Interest in drawing, storytelling, and children’s books.

Please note - you should be 19 years old or over at 31st August 2026 prior to starting the course.

As part of your course we may organise trips to assist you with your learning. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate.
