This free half-day course will give you a basic understanding of the main environmental technologies used in domestic settings to make efficient use of our natural resources to heat our homes. The decarbonisation of heating and hot water provision, as well as the issues, risks, impacts, and opportunities available will also be discussed.
The purpose of this course is to provide an introduction to different environmental technologies and energy efficiency measures that will enable businesses and individuals, homeowners and tenants to reduce or eliminate their reliance on fossil fuels.
The course is designed to run in combination with one of our other introductory half-day courses on the same day:
• Introduction to Solar Thermal
• Introduction to Solar PV
• Introduction to Heat Pumps
The content covered can be applied to any job role across sectors. The course is intended as a stepping stone to respond to the environmental and technological challenges and opportunities in the way energy is used/generated in our homes and businesses.
Course units
Subject areas included are renewable technology in context, photovoltaics and battery storage, solar thermal, heat pumps (ground and air source), thermal Insulation. Please note that this is delivered in combination with one of our other half-day courses, which you have to enrol on separately.
What next?
The Net Zero Skills Hub offers a range of introductory courses, including Introduction to Solar Thermal, Introduction to Solar PV, Introduction to Heat Pumps, Understanding Domestic Retrofit (accredited) and Carbon Literacy.

There are no entry requirements and no prior knowledge is needed.

As part of your course we may organise trips to assist you with your learning. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate.
