Interested in helping others learn English? This course introduces the skills and knowledge needed to support English language teaching and learning as a volunteer in a classroom setting.
During this course you will explore the role of a volunteer supporting English language learners and develop practical skills to assist teaching and learning in a supportive environment.

- Understand the role and responsibilities of a volunteer in an English language learning setting - Explore ways to support learners with speaking, listening, reading and writing - Learn strategies for supporting individuals and small groups in the classroom - Develop communication skills and confidence working with diverse learners - Gain an understanding of safeguarding, boundaries and professional behaviour

There will be no class during half-term. The course will be held online using Teams and your tutor will email you calendar invites prior to classes.

What next?
This course could lead to volunteering in ESOL classes, progressing to further ESOL or teaching support courses, or exploring pathways into teaching assistant or community learning roles.
Entry criteria
Learners should have a good level of spoken and written English (typically English Level 1 or above) and an interest in supporting others to learn English. No previous teaching experience is required.

Please note - you should be 19 years old or over at 31st August 2026 prior to starting the course.
