The course is designed to support you to achieve the formal L2 Technical Certificate in Animal Care whilst focussing on employability skills and progression to the T-Level in Animal Management.

This one-year, full-time Level 2 course combines both theory and practical animal related work to cover the key areas of routine management and welfare. Animal students will get to work with a range of animals including reptiles, alpacas, meerkats and the farm animals.

You will learn how to carry out daily husbandry tasks, carry out full health checks and how to improve welfare. Whilst developing your practical skills the course will also help you to develop other employability skills such as communication, safe working and working in a team. Your study is supported by a number of trips and visits to key employers to enhance your learning experience. Learners interested in the Level 2 Technical Certificate in Animal Care will study theoretical aspects of the subject and apply them to practical tasks.

Progression would be the T-Level in Animal Care and Management

4 GCSEs at grade 3 and above to include English or Maths and Science.
Fee information
In addition to the main course fees given below there is are additional costs of in the region of £75 for protective clothing and trip fee costs of £65. Students may be eligible for a student bursary to help with these costs. (Costs are given for guidance only.)

As part of your course we may organise trips to assist you with your learning. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate. Bursaries may also available to cover the cost of some trips.

Assessment is via a multiple choice technical exam and a hoolistic synoptic assessment that is both practical and written.

Animal students will develop knowledge and practical skills of caring for a range of animals Students will have the opportunity to work in a commercial setting on the farm, within the dog Grooming Parlour and in the Canine Hydrotherapy Centre.
