You will be offered a broad grounding in the use of acrylics. You will cover glazing, layering, impasto painting, bold and expressive brush work. You will examine how to observe a simple still life, how to mould form through light and shade, how to use colour effectively and how to express space and distance in a landscape.
The course is designed for those with little or no formal training or experience in the medium.

• Simple still life to establish learner’s level of experience • Rule of thirds: learners to experiment with designing a series of compositions using this method • Rule of thirds part two: Finished painting • Negative space: learners to observe negative spaces in a still life then utilise strong negative shapes in designing a composition. • Colour in composition: Learners to consider the effective juxta positioning of colours to lead the eye and balance the painting. • Flesh tones: Grisaille study • Flesh tones glazing over previously produced grisaille paint • Figure composition part one: Simple perspective of townscape • Figure composition part two: placing figures within • Negotiated lesson.
