You will be offered a broad grounding in the use of acrylics. You will cover glazing, layering, impasto painting, bold and expressive brush work. You will examine how to observe a simple still life, how to mould form through light and shade, how to use colour effectively and how to express space and distance in a landscape.
• Simple still life to establish learner’s level of experience• Rule of thirds: learners to experiment with designing a series of compositions using this method• Rule of thirds part two: Finished painting• Negative space: learners to observe negative spaces in a still life then utilise strong negative shapes in designing a composition.• Colour in composition: Learners to consider the effective juxta positioning of colours to lead the eye and balance the painting.• Flesh tones: Grisaille study• Flesh tones glazing over previously produced grisaille paint• Figure composition part one: Simple perspective of townscape• Figure composition part two: placing figures within • Negotiated lesson.

In order to avoid disappointment, it is advisable to enrol at least 2½ weeks prior to the course starting. We will confirm course information two weeks prior to the start date.

Parking onsite - 2 hours free then paid, bus stops close by. Refreshments able to purchase onsite. No class during half term.

What next?
Further improvers’ classes, self-directed learning, foundation course. Possibly move onto Oil Painting – beginners, as there are similarities in the ways that one uses the medium.

You are expected to provide your own materials, which may cost approximately £20. Please do not buy any materials until your course is confirmed as running.

As part of your course we may organise trips to assist you with your learning. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate.

Learning & method assessment
As this is a non-accredited course, a variety of teaching and learning methods will be used.
They will include demonstration, practical, 1 to 1 tuition and group work. Informal methods of assessment will be used.
To track your progress and achievement you will be required to complete a short document.
