You will be offered a broad grounding in the use of acrylics. You will cover glazing, layering, impasto painting, bold and expressive brush work. You will examine how to observe a simple still life, how to mould form through light and shade, how to use colour effectively and how to express space and distance in a landscape.
• Painting a cylinder: Expressing form through light and shade using a variety of techniques, this simple exercise will show me the level that learners are at. • Still life of learner’s choice: From a simple single object to a complex set up.• Palette craft: colour mixing/matching, followed by applying colours in a very simple way to a landscape. More experienced learners might wish to progress landscape further. • Colour wheel.• Warm analogous colour still life, from very simple statements to experienced learners looking at subtle changes in colour caused by reflected light.• Cool analogous colour landscape• Transparency: glass objects, glazing technique.• Reflective surfaces, glazing continued.• Reflections in a pond (glazing and bold mark making).• Palette knife painting. Expressive mark making.

In order to avoid disappointment, it is advisable to enrol at least 2½ weeks prior to the course starting. We will confirm course information two weeks prior to the start date.

Parking onsite - 2 hours free then paid, bus stops close by. Refreshments able to purchase onsite. No class during half term.

Entry criteria
For a range of learners from those with little or no experience to those with a degree of experience in acrylics or other mediums.
Fee information
You are expected to provide your own materials, which may cost approximately £20. Please do not buy any materials until your course is confirmed as running.

As part of your course we may organise trips to assist you with your learning. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate.

Learning & method assessment
As this is a non-accredited course, a variety of teaching and learning methods will be used.
They will include demonstration, practical, 1 to 1 tuition and group work. Informal methods of assessment will be used.
