Staff Profile: Mahi Devanesan
Ensuring our students are at the forefront of their learning is Mahi Devanesan, our Engineering Lecturer with over 20 years’ experience in teaching, who is dedicated to upholding the standards of our qualifications and helping our students to achieve their best.
Prior to teaching in Further Education and Higher Education, Mahi worked for 7 years as a Senior Electronics and Electrical Engineering Lecture in India – joining the College in May 2015.
His favourite part of his job is helping our students to secure the highest marks possible during their time at college, and since the launch of the T Level programme and reintroduction of HNCs, Mahi has thrown himself into finding out everything there is to know about the new programmes and how to succeed, working as an External Moderator for both Pearson and City & Guilds.
“With the new units, our T Level and HNCs have a lot to offer. Especially with the additional optional units which offer our students the freedom to specialise in what they’re interested in. We have great resources here at the College, and anyone joining us will benefit from having access to Industry Standard Equipment, and the support of experienced lecturers.”
Staff Profile: Imran Khan
Leading our HNC provision for Engineering is Imran Khan; a Lecturer with over 20 years of teaching experience, having joined the College in 2001.
Prior to working for Abingdon & Witney, Imran worked as Technical Manager for a Control Systems Engineering Company, working with his team to design Wind Tunnels which were used to simulate and study the effects of air flow over various objects.
Imran's passion is teaching, and his favourite part of his job is working with his students in the classroom as it’s a ‘two-way process he learns from too’. His favourite subjects to teach are programming and electronics, and his favourite software to show students is PLC (Programmable Logic Controller), software tools and platforms which are used in industry to control different machinery and systems.
Having previously run our HNC in Engineering, Imran is equipped with a brilliant background understanding of what the HNC has to offer, and can help our T Level students to decide if it's the best route for them. His passion for higher education is matched with an extensive understanding of the field, having taught our foundation degrees too.

The best bit about a HNC for me is the project; an opportunity for you to focus on a project which you can directly be applied to your work and troubleshooting any challenges you may have in your placement.”
Staff Profile: Musa Muhammed
Musa joined the College in 2023 and brought a passion and enthusiasm for both education and engineering that is testament to his extensive academic background.
He began his journey through higher education at the University of Westminster, where he completed his BSc before going on to the Institute of Education (IOE) at University College London (UCL) to pursue his PGCE.
Eager to expand his expertise, Musa went on to study for a MSc in Petroleum Engineering from London Southbank University, before finally securing a PgCert in Quantity Surveying from the University of Salford.
His strong background in education and engineering brings invaluable benefits to our students across all our engineering courses.

Jay
It's been great having my employer support my progression and career. I did study engineering at secondary school, but I didn't enjoy it as much as I do here.
There's a good atmosphere and the equipment is fantastic. I have the freedom to get on with the work but the support is there if and when I need it.
In my opinion, it's the best thing to do; taking on an apprenticeship, going to college and getting paid for it.
I have a clear direction in mind too, as I'm thinking of studying an engineering HNC and potentially an HND after that.

I studied for my Level 3 engineering apprenticeship on-site at BMW. During that time, you get to work in different departments and figure out the career route you're interested in – I've chosen the maintenance department.
The tutors at the college really know their stuff and are helpful. You can tell they have experience working with BMW as the organisation and communication is really good, especially as we're on shift patterns.
Going forward, the HND is a potential option, because if you progress well you can look into the foundation degree.

During my time at the College, alongside my role at BMW, I have been developing my skillset and gaining more and more confidence in what I do.
The workshops and equipment allow me to work on the areas I’d like to specialise in and apply the practical experience and knowledge I learn at college back into my job.
I would say that the course is helping me get to where I am because I am constantly learning new things.
