Staff Profile: Shene Jamal
Recently joining our Computing Department is Shene, an experienced Lecturer with a passion for programming and software development and an impressive background in Education and Computing.
Graduating in the top three students in her BSc Computing Cohort, Shene, went onto stay at her university as an assistant, working her way up to teaching as a lecturer whilst she earnt her Masters. She joined our College in May 2024, and has been using her time ahead of teaching in September to develop new assignment briefs, and work alongside PHD students and her colleagues to create the best teaching material possible.
“I cannot wait to get started and begin working with the students. My passions are programming and software development and I am excited to pass this on to our students. Everyone at the College has been so welcoming and supportive, and it has been brilliant to see just how much care they take to ensure our teaching supports every learners’ individual needs.”
Staff Profile: Byron Lui
Before joining Abingdon & Witney College in 2023, Byron studied Computer Science at Bachelors and Masters level in Taiwan and Hong Kong.

Staff Profile: Chintan Mahant
Chintan joined the College in 2023 as a Lecturer in the Computing Department with over 13 years of experience in the field of IT and Computing. He has a Bachelors Degree in Information Technology and Masters of Engineering in Computing Science and Engineering from India; and a Masters of Science in IT Management from Sheffield Hallam University, England.
“The College encourages the development of well-rounded individuals and prioritises preparing each student to go out in the real world. When they leave the College, not only have they improved their technical knowledge, but they have also gained life skills which will help them to be successful, content and productive; such as learning how to operative as a team and how to take responsibility for their own actions.
I enjoy passing on my expertise to students who want to succeed in computing, and supporting the technology department to help our students get ready for the future. As a department, we support them in any way possible, helping them to develop into future software developers, or prepare for computer-related careers. The classrooms are filled with fresh ideas and new concepts every day!”

Before joining the College, Mark provided IT support within a secondary school and ran his own website design and development company.

There are significantly less students here compared to school, so there's more one-to-one time with the tutor and I can get individual support.
It's definitely a good challenge. There are units that focus on the jobs that are in demand like coding, and units that branch off into different subjects like business and sport, so not just computers!
I find that best of all, I'm focusing on one thing at a time, which is different to studying A levels and I'm glad I've gone for something more practical.

Aidan always loved computers, especially big systems with impressive specs. The course at the College had the right material and structure for his learning style, and he found it a positive move to focus on one subject rather than a wider selection of A levels.
"I now work at the Science and Technology Facilities Council, a world-leading multi-disciplinary science organisation, looking after a large storage cluster and some of this requires scripting/coding which I learned at college.
The job has tested my knowledge of networking, web design and several other areas of IT that were covered in modules on my course here."

Daisy joined the Level 3 Digital Technologies course (Computing as it was known then) and was so successful that she went on to achieve the 2017 Student of the Year Award for the entire Technology department!
"There was such a wide variety of topics covered within my course, taught in practical ways rather than just through theory; this gave me a really good idea of what I enjoy most about computing.
Two years on and I am studying for a degree in BSc Computer Forensics at the University of South Wales. I am currently on a placement year where I am working in the public sector in Computing.
Next year is my final year of my degree and I still share the same passion I had when finishing college. Going to university has helped me develop both my technical and personal skills which are crucial for progression in the industry but it isn’t for everyone!"
