Whether you are a beginner wanting to develop basic plumbing skills, or you’re an experienced learner wanting to expand your skill set, come and join us at our evening plumbing courses. Our seven-week programmes will teach you how to confidently carry out some common maintenance tasks around the home, which could save calling out a plumber! You will follow one of our three tailored programmes which have been designed to suit each learner’s level: Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced.

Don’t worry, all three courses are run on the same evening at the same campus. Apply now and our team of experienced staff will ensure you’re put on the right programme for you.
Can I do all three levels?
Yes, we run each course level three times a year, so once you’ve completed one course, you will be able to move up to the next at the nearest start date.
Beginner Programme:
Week 1: Introduction to basic workshop safety: Soldering techniques.
Week 2: Introduction to different methods of joining pipework, using the different materials used in the industry: End feed and integral soldering, Compression, Low carbon steel, push fit.
Week 3: Small frame assessment. To include all the different jointing methods learnt so far.
Week 4: Pipe bending techniques. To include an introduction to basic pipe fabrication techniques. Portable hand benders.
Week 5: Wall work: To include marking out and soldering on the wall ‘in situ’, learn how to protect the building fabric.
Week 6: Final large frame. To include all techniques learnt to date. Final assessment starts.
Week 7: Testing and decommissioning final large frame. To include a water pressure test on your work. Final assessment finish and pressure test. Evaluate sessions.
Intermediate Programme:
Week 1: Learn about the operation and repair of: Stop valve, Service valve, Gate valves and taps.
Week 2: Installation and maintenance of float operated valves (ball valves): Understand legislation regarding float valves, renew and repair float valves, replacing taps in: Basins, baths and sink units.
Week 3: Dressing sanitary ware: Learn how to put together a bath, basin, and WC.
Week 4: Above ground drainage: Waste pipes, Soil Pipes, Traps.
Week 5: Plumb a cloakroom: Install a basin and pedestal and WC. Plumb hot and cold pipework.
Week 6: Plumb a cloakroom cont. Complete task and test.
Week 7: Connect waste in cloakroom to soil pipe: Test as per industry standards, decommission, evaluate session.
Advanced Programme:
Week 1: Hanging Radiators: Install valves. Mark out and hang radiator.
Week 2: Radiator Task: Follow diagram: Hang and plumb a radiator. Fill and test.
Week 3:
None, but you must wear steel toe capped footwear in the workshop
As part of your course we may organise trips to assist you with your learning. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate.
