This is a 10-week qualification of 2-hour, weekly workshops. The qualification is intended to provide learners with a broad introduction to the health and care sector, equipping learners with underpinning knowledge and skills specific to the sector alongside a range of transferable employability skills. They are designed to support progression to further learning and ultimately to work in health and care or other related sectors.

In order to avoid disappointment, please enrol at least 2½ weeks before the course start date.

Learners will consider the principles and values that underpin the work carried out in health and social care settings. The importance of respecting and valuing the adults, children and young people they may work with will be explored alongside the guidance and standards that underpin these principles which may include relevant acts of legislation, workplace policies and occupational standards.

Learners will also be provided with an overview of children and young people’s development, the factors that influence development and how this process can be supported.
