Perfect for “rusty” learners ready to move faster, this dynamic course boosts your confidence, expands your vocabulary, and helps you get by with ease in real Italian-speaking situations, whether at home, at work, or while travelling.
Italian Beginners B is designed for learners who already have some basic Italian and feel ready to progress at a slightly quicker pace. Whether you have completed Italian Beginners A or simply have a little prior knowledge, this course helps you build practical communication skills for real Italian-speaking situations at home, at work or while travelling.

You will develop confidence in everyday conversations through themes such as countries and nationalities, jobs, expressing opinions about your work and discussing pay. Your numerical skills will also expand, allowing you to understand and use numbers into the thousands and millions, as well as proportions and percentages.

The course builds on the grammar introduced in Beginners A and strengthens your understanding of key structures. You will deepen your knowledge of tenses, improve your word order and become more comfortable forming accurate sentences. You will also practise identifying the main points in short, contemporary texts to support your reading and comprehension skills.

To ensure a smooth start, we recommend enrolling at least 2½ weeks before the course begins. Full course details will be confirmed two weeks before the start date.

Facilities at Abingdon Campus:- Vending machines and a Costa Coffee shop (open until 7pm on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday during term time)- Watercoolers for easy bottle refills- Free parking

Please note: There will be no session on 16/02/2026 due to half term.

Entry criteria
There are no formal entry requirements for this course. The standard approximates to the Common European Framework Level A1. It is strongly recommended however for those who are new to the language that you have completed the Italian beginners A course. If you are a “rusty” beginner, it is recommended that you speak to one of our tutors who will be able to assess the appropriate level of course for you.
Fee information
A textbook is used to accompany the course, but it is optional to buy this (average cost £20 - £25). The textbook will support your learning for at least 1 year. You may also like to buy a small dictionary. Your tutor will be able to advise you at the first session.

As part of your course we may organise trips to assist you with your learning. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate.

There are bursaries available to help you with other course costs. Call 01235 216 212 for more information.

The rules on fee reduction are complicated and we would encourage you to talk to our Admissions staff on 01235 216 400 to discuss your options. You can find more information on our Fees and Bursaries page - search "Fees and Bursaries" at the top of the page.
