Witney CampusIt's hard to imagine a more dynamic, fast-changing sector than nursing and healthcare in the UK. The T Level in Healthcare is an exciting cross-curriculum course offering students practical experience and the theoretical underpinning knowledge to pursue careers in health and social care. The course is taught by a range of staff from a variety of vocational backgrounds and is designed to enable you to progress to employment or apprenticeships in hospitals or healthcare settings or to move on to studying in higher education. Oxford Brookes University is guaranteeing an interview for our T Level graduating students providing they meet the conditions outlined in their prospectus.
The topics studied are:
-Working within the Health and Science Sector
-Health, Safety and Environmental regulations in the Health and Science sector
-Managing information and data within the Health and Science sector
-Good Scientific and Clinical Practice
-Core Science concepts (Including Anatomy and Physiology and Diseases and Disorders)
-The Healthcare sector
-Providing person-centred care
-Health and wellbeing
-Health and Safety regulations applicable in the Healthcare sector
-Infection prevention and control in health specific settings.
Year 2
In Year 2 you will specialise in adult nursing. You will learn about clinical tasks carried out on adults including taking physiological measurements, applying wound dressings, collecting specimens and monitoring hydration levels. You will learn about the different types of monitoring and emergency equipment used in healthcare settings and how to use and maintain this equipment. You will learn how to support adults in activities of daily life such as nutrition, hydration and hygiene and you will learn about the different roles of carers including supporting adults with dementia and end of life care.
Throughout the course you will undertake over 345 hours of industry placement in various settings. This will include regular one day a week placements and also block placements. In addition you will have the opportunity to gain qualifications in first aid, food hygiene and manual handling.
There will also be a chance to attend UCAS event days and portential university visits.
As part of your course we may organise trips to assist you with your learning. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate.
