This course is designed for young adults who have an EHCP (Education Health and Care Plan) and have basic independent livings skills, but wish to develop them further to live independently at home and in the community. The course will also give students an opportunity to achieve an entry 1 qualification alongside and if appropriate an English or maths qualification. The topics will help to increase student skills through practising independence, employability skills, and their personal health and wellbeing. Students will focus on skills needed for their individual development which have been expressed in their EHCP Outcomes and initial college-based assessments.

There is an opportunity to spend two years in this pathway developing further independent skills before progressing.

The programme is designed and delivered in a supportive environment, aimed at improving communication and meeting their individual academic, therapeutic, personal, and social needs, varying in length and duration determined by the needs outlined in the EHCP.

The provision may also include opportunities to access speech and language therapy, hydrotherapy, physiotherapy, the sensory room, and external/community activities. Students will also benefit from a high student/staff ratio which allows for individual and personalised learning to take place.
